“I am a nurse, a patient, and a believer in Jesus Christ — and all three made me who I am.”
My name is Sonya Booker, and I have been a registered nurse for over 30 years. My career has taken me from critical care and emergency medicine to health insurance case management, disease management, and finally to what I am most passionate about: wellness coaching and helping people navigate the healthcare system on their own terms.
But there is a chapter in my story that changed everything. While I was attending the University of Virginia Nursing School, I was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease — where I had a pituitary tumor that drove my adrenal glands to over-secrete the stress hormone, cortisol. What followed were multiple surgeries, radiation, and years of treatment. I experienced firsthand the mental and physical devastation that chronic stress can cause when the body loses its ability to regulate it.
That experience did not just make me a better nurse. It made me a different kind of thinker about health. I began to understand that stress is not a secondary concern — it is the primary one. And that until we address what is happening in a person’s inner world, the habits we build in the outer world will never fully take hold.
My Perspective
My view of health is holistic. I believe the spirit, soul, and body interact together to produce — or undermine — our wellbeing. I believe God’s principles provide the foundation for whole-person health. And I believe that transformation flows from the inside out: when we deal with what is happening at the root, lasting change becomes possible.
I also believe in practical, accessible solutions. My approach does not require expensive supplements or products. It requires honest assessment, the right priorities, and a commitment to building habits that your real life can sustain. I also believe in equipping you with discernment, not dependency. The wellness industry is full of competing claims and trends — my goal isn’t to hand you another one to follow, but to help you learn how to evaluate information for yourself, so you can navigate it with confidence long after our work together ends.
